On October 3, the first San Gabriel Day was celebrated in the province of Alicante, an event specific to telecommunications engineers, which on this occasion was organized jointly with the Polytechnic School of Elche of the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the creation of telecommunications engineering studies at the Polytechnic School. The event took place in the new Valona building of the UMH and brought together more than 50 telecommunications engineers, with a notable participation of engineers from various promotions during these 25 years, which demonstrates a cohesion between the profession.

The delegate of the college in the province of Alicante, Mr. César Morillas, inaugurated the event highlighting the importance of strengthening the presence of the College in the province, especially at a time when public institutions – such as city councils, provincial councils and the Generalitat – are promoting policies to attract talent and develop the technological industry. Telecommunications engineers play a key role in the technological modernisation of important cities such as Alicante and Elche.

One of the highlights of the evening was the intervention of the dean of the College of Telecommunications Engineers of the Valencian Community, Mr. Sergio Riolobos Anglés, who presented commemorative pins to those who have been members for 25 years, as well as to new members. This gesture underlined the College’s commitment to its members and the celebration of their career.

During the event, the UMH commemorated the 25th anniversary of the start of telecommunications studies at the university, which allowed engineers from various classes to meet again, strengthening the sense of community and professional pride.

The evening was enlivened by Magician J, who offered a magic show before giving way to a cocktail dinner on the terrace of the Valona building, with live music by the group Los Ruinas. Throughout the evening, activities were organised to facilitate networking between attendees, fostering new professional connections in a relaxed atmosphere.

The closing ceremony was led by Mr José María Sabater, director of the UMH’s Escuela Politécnica Superior de Elche, who highlighted the importance of this type of event to strengthen collaboration between the university and professionals in the sector, as well as to celebrate the achievements in the field of telecommunications.

The success of this first edition of San Gabriel Day in the province of Alicante opens the door for the celebration to continue in the coming years, consolidating itself as a key event for telecommunications engineers. The traditional celebration in Valencia also took place last Friday, demonstrating the College’s commitment to promoting the development of the sector throughout the Valencian Community.
