Last Friday, April 11th, the Kaizen Institute held a workshop on the Computer-Aided Manufacturing course for the Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. The workshop was led by Jorge Lloret, director of the Levante region of the Kaizen Institute, and coordinated by Inés Alemany, as well as by Professor Adrián Peidró, the professor in charge of the course, and by the EPSE management team through Nuria Campillo, Mónica Ballesta, and Abel Navarro.

During the event, the Kaizen philosophy was explored and the VSM (Value Stream Mapping) technique was discussed in depth. This technique allows a company’s processes to be mapped and analyzed from the input of raw materials to the delivery of the final product, with the goal of identifying and eliminating waste, improving efficiency, adding value, and estimating process times. The attending students grouped into several teams simulating consulting firms. With the assistance of the faculty and using a set of stickers and Post-it notes, each team worked independently to construct a mural diagram that mapped, as accurately and clearly as possible, the sequence of operations in the production process analyzed, based on partial descriptions of the requirements and constraints of the various stages of the production process. The students demonstrated great motivation, and Kaizen’s contribution was highly valued, with several students expressing interest in the possibility of working in Kaizen in the future.

Kaizen Institute is a global leader in consulting and training for continuous improvement and operational excellence, playing a crucial role in industrial engineering by optimizing processes, resources, and workflows in various manufacturing and operations areas. It operates in sectors such as manufacturing, automotive, healthcare, logistics, and food.
